Experience Madeira holidays, a stunningly beautiful island with lush sub tropical vegetation spilling down the mountainsides; a plethora of vibrant colours intertwined with whitewashed houses and terracotta roofs. Somehow, despite being a popular holiday destination for many years, holidays in Madeira have maintained its own pace of life with its unique character and charm. This is a very hilly island with a rocky coastline and amazingly clear crystal waters and although beaches are few and far between many of the hotels in Madeira lining the waterfront have direct access to the sea, or sea pools. Most of the islands population inhabit the area around Funchal, the capital, where houses and villages have now almost spread up to the top of the mountain. There is even a football stadium perched high up the mountain, more than 800 metres above sea level. The other side of the island has fabulous unspoilt scenery with thick tropical forests and a handful of traditional picturesque villages.
